I Love Internet Law

I am taking Internet Law this semester and have found it really interesting. Our professor assigned us to read several trademark infringement cases regarding confusing domain names.

The fact of these two cases just cracked me up…

1. In Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. v. Bucci, 42 U.S.P.Q. 2d 1430 (S.D.N.Y. 1997), the defendant, who is a host of “Catholic Radio”, registered the domain name plannedparenthood.com and created a website containing anti-abortion and anti-contraception materials. As a result, users looking for birth control information would be directed to a book titled “The Cost of Abortion”.

2. In People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) v. Doughney, 263 F. 3d 359 (4th Cir. 2001), the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sued Michael Doughney after he registered the domain name peta.org and created a website called “People Eating Tasty Animals.”

Haha, what a great name for a website—people eating tasty animals

Dorothy,

I love Internet Law as well.
I assume you go to Penn State Law?
I drove across Pennsylvania in 2005 but had no chance to visit Penn State Law -- waht a pity!
Thank you for visiting my blog, please keep in touch.
